What we do and why, in the words of our board members

The Haven Project of Georgia is a 501c3 non-profit organization that serves individuals with disabilities and their families by providing free advocacy, education, and respite programs.

The organization’s mission grew out of the experiences of its board members, all of whom are personally connected to the work the group will be doing. As parents of children with special needs, teachers of students with disabilities, and medical professionals who treat patients with disabilities, they envision the organization as one that can help people access the resources they need, provide education on navigating various disability-related services, and offer opportunities for relaxation and respite.

Fill a Void

“The Haven Project is going to fill a large void in our rural community that’s needed to be filled for quite some time. Being able to link these families with the support they need—be it medical, functional, or social—is truly something special.”

Guide

“The Haven Project is an organization that is greatly needed in this area. Eleven years ago, I had limited knowledge as to what was available to help me and my child. Hopefully, The Haven Project will be able to help other parents know how to contact the people who will be able to best serve their child.”

—Jennifer Turner, teacher and parent of a child with special needs

Share Ideas

“We have so many lessons learned and contacts developed with service and educational entities that can be shared to help people with special needs and their families navigate the systems they need. The more we can share, the more we can refine these tools, and the fewer wheels we all have to reinvent.” — Tom Lawrence, parent of a child with special needs
